Your starting point
Reorder at
units of inventory position
Inventory position is 70 units. It is time to review a reorder.
Suggested order for your planning horizon
Target 170 units, less inventory position 70, rounded to a multiple of 10.
Assumes steady demand and reliable lead time. A days-based buffer is not a statistical service-level calculation. Check open orders, seasonality, perishability, cash and supplier constraints before buying.
The calculation, in plain English
Reorder point = average daily use × (lead time + safety-buffer days).
Inventory position = stock on hand + already on order − committed quantity.
Target stock = average daily use × (lead time + safety-buffer days + review interval).
When inventory position is at or below the reorder point, the suggested order is the gap to target stock, subject to your minimum order and rounded up to an order multiple. Otherwise the suggestion is zero. The calculation assumes incoming stock arrives in time; a late purchase order can still cause a stockout.
